The Reality of Time

“People are frugal in guarding their personal property, but as soon as it comes to squandering time, they are most wasteful of the one thing in which it is right to be stingy”-Seneca. This is an area I need you to start looking at with a fine comb. We don’t take inventory of the time we have, and the time we have to live. Let that soak in for a second….. When you go to school, how many hours a day do you have to spend on it? How many hours do you spend at work? Then think about this, how much time do you get for yourself? How much sleep do you have to get? And finally, are you indeed using your time to the fullest?

Tough, rugged, questions but when you break that down, you have probably honestly lived a third of your current life, and the other two-thirds are spent on things that won’t grow you or change that circumstance. We are quick to say that we don’t have enough time in our days, but the reality is that we don’t use it properly. Life is short when you are capitalizing on your time wisely and will pass whether you act or not. But let’s not harbor over what is; let’s dig deep and figure out how to get our time back.

Be brutally honest about where your time is spent

The absolute worse thing that anyone can do is to live a lie that isn’t their truth. When you do, your character transforms you into that lie. Every time it is reinforced, you gain satisfaction in knowing you right, even if it’s painful. Take the time to start mapping out where your time is going. If it is spent online, then you could probably select the option and track your progress. Break down your day into categories, then take an honest inventory of where it goes.

Slowly start patching up your bloody spots.

You must start slow in this process, or you will risk going back to where you are now. You don’t have to master your time right away; you have to be on the path. When you try to rush the process, you end up creating different holes and metaphorical bleeding out. Pick one area to master, then move on to the next. If you have to start with something simple, that is even better. Don’t ever treat your growth as a sprint. It has got to be a marathon that you train your butt off until you are in shape to stepping into your fate.

Figure out ways to live a meaningful life for you

This is hard for a lot of people because people don’t know what they want. They got a little idea of it, but until you check yourself and start finding what makes you happy to do, you will waste your life. When you start experiencing what brings you joy day in and day out, you want to find out how to get more of it. You aren’t your job or school. You are you, and you owe it to yourself to find what can make this thing called life worth living. If you have to start with what you don’t like and then change it into what you want.

Take Away

You are more than capable of having a meaningful life full of the wonders that you seek. When you start being honest about where your time is going, work on mastering your time and find essential things that you can do to increase your time, is when you really will start living your life. Don’t let another day go by without taking some action and creating your story.
